Four “Warehouse” companies were involved in this breach. Tennis Warehouse LLC, Running Warehouse LLC, Tackle Warehouse LLC, and Skate Warehouse LLC are sports retailers selling tennis apparel, running apparel, fishing gear, and skating gear, respectively.
The breach was a hack into the websites of each of these companies. The stolen information includes credit and debit card information, names, addresses, financial account numbers, and website passwords.
While the companies did not release the breach’s nature, they notified the affected parties faster than many other companies. For some companies, it can take six months to a year, sometimes even longer, to conclude the investigation and feel safe notifying the consumers and media. These companies only took two months.
This breach occurred on October 1st, 2021.
The breach impacts a large number of the websites’ users. There were over a million affected parties, all of which received notification letters in December 2021. Many of these customers were outraged by the companies not offering any form of compensation or credit monitoring, despite the sensitive nature of the breach.
The number of affected individuals seems to top out at 1,813,224 website users. These people are now at high risk for identity theft and someone ruining their credit. There are simple steps that can be taken, but sometimes, these add up quickly and become quite expensive, hence the anger at the companies not providing any type of compensation to cover that cost.
