The State Bar of Georgia is a government body under the Georgian Supreme Court. You must become a member of the State Bar of Georgia to practice law in the state.
The breach was a hack into the internal systems of the State Bar of Georgia. Initially, the organization stated that there was no proof of access to personal information but said a while later that the hacker had accessed specific information.
The breach was officially described as a ransomware attack. “Although this has been officially described as a ransomware attack, no monetary demand has been made and no proof of possession of any personally identifiable information or other data has been provided,” said a State Bar of Georgia representative.
The breach occurred in April 2022.
We are not sure precisely who the breach impacts at the time of writing. We know, however, that over 50,000 people are members of this organization, including anyone who practices law in Georgia. Months after the investigation launched, the State Bar of Georgia said that certain members, employees, and former employees had their information involved in the breach.
Again, we aren’t entirely sure of a number. The accessed information includes addresses, social security information, name and name change information, dates of birth, direct deposit information, and driver’s license numbers.
