Indian exporting company IndiaMART endured a significant data breach in which the records of nearly 40 million parties were exposed to hackers.

IndiaMART representatives stated the company investigated the breach yet didn't provide extensive details as to the cause of the data leak, likely in an attempt to minimize the chances of yet another crippling digital offensive. An employee or supplier could have shared their password with another party by mistake or on purpose, allowing them entry into the system without impediment.

In total, it is estimated that the breach will leak sensitive information to around 40,000 suppliers of the e-commerce site. It is worth noting the company’s app had more than 10 million downloads last year alone.
The information plucked from the suppliers was subsequently posted on internet forums for sale. Some of those who peruse dark web message boards to obtain insight on the types of items for sale report around 44,000 stolen records stemming from the hack are up for sale on several such websites.
Digital security specialists and digital forensics professionals who have analyzed the attack state samples from datasets posted on the web for sale in the aftermath of the breach contain 44 unique records. The individual records are voluminous, containing important and valuable information regarding names, phone numbers, email addresses, snail mail addresses, user identification logins, and more.
