Humana Incorporated is an insurance company based out of Louisville, Kentucky. It ranked 41 in Forbes’ 2021 Fortune 500 list, making Humana Inc. the top Kentucky-based company.
The breach was a dark web attack that originated in Choice Health, a company that sells Medicare products on behalf of Humana. The breach then spread outward, compromising Humana systems. “Upon learning of the incident, Choice Health worked with their third-party service provider to reconfigure the security settings on the database,” Humana said in its statement letters.
The breach occurred through a well-hidden dark web attack. The attack was discovered on May 14th, 2022, when information allegedly from Choice Health became available for purchase on the dark web. As soon as authorities found the leaked information, they immediately removed it from the dark web, but bad actors still accessed some files.

The breach impacts Humana customers that had their information compromised in the breach. The affected individuals can take steps to protect themselves. Humana is offering two years of Experian to any impacted customers.
There were 22,767 people affected by the breach. These people had their names, social security numbers, Medicare or Humana information, contact information, and addresses up for sale on the dark web. The individuals should use the offered protection to keep themselves and their loved ones.
