Data breaches are a huge challenge that modern organizations must deal with today. This week, we learned of several education-related breaches, as well as a few financial breaches. The National Student Clearinghouse and Lakeland Community College in Ohio were both hit with serious data breaches. There were also breaches with BMO Bank, the Brady Martz & Associates Accounting firm, and the Delta Dental of California health insurance provider. Get all the details on these latest data breach incidents below.

National Student Clearinghouse

Countless US Universities and high schools rely on the National Student Clearinghouse for information verification services. Over 3,600 colleges and 22,000 high schools depend on its services, which is why it's so upsetting to learn the organization was recently hacked and suffered a major breach. The organization lost data to the MOVEit data breaches, and information like Social Security numbers, degree information, school documents, and more were lost to the breach.

Delta Dental of California

Delta Dental of California is one of the leading dental insurance providers in the state of California. The organization delivers PPO dental plans to many individuals and was founded in 1955. Delta Dental of California suffered from a data breach in connection with all the MOVEit data breaches. Company information was lost near the end of May or beginning of June 2023 and information such as phone numbers, names, home addresses, birth dates, and Social Security numbers was exposed during the breach.

Lakeland Community College

Lakeland Community College, based in Lakeland, Ohio, was impacted by a data breach between March 7 and 31. Students and staff at the university could have been damaged by this breach. The lost data includes details like names, credit and debit card information, Social Security numbers, passport data, health information, and more. All this data could have been stolen by the attacker, and it might get misused in harmful ways. If you learn that your data was part of this breach, you should take steps to protect yourself. Invest in credit monitoring and be careful to avoid sharing any more personal data with unauthorized individuals.

BMO Bank

BMO Bank, a large organization throughout the United States, recently suffered a breach that lost data for many of its customers. With over $3 Billion in assets under management and a huge customer base, the breach put many people at risk. The BMO Bank breach puts Social Security numbers, names, addresses, birth dates, and more at risk for the customers. If you bank with BMO, your data could be at risk, and you should watch to see if anything strange shows up on your credit.

Brady Martz and Associates

Accounting firm Brady Martz & Associates suffered from a data breach in November that resulted in lost data for many of its customers. The Minnesota-based firm works with major companies throughout the country. The breach exposed items like driver's license numbers, Social Security numbers, full names, home addresses, and medical information. Individual notices are being sent to everyone involved, and if you receive one, you should take immediate steps to protect your information. As long as you react quickly and protect your data, you should be able to avoid most problems that could result from this breach.
