The end of 2021 was certainly a dour month as the COVID-19 pandemic worsened and the weather took a turn for the worse. However, December of 2021 was also quite dramatic in the context of cyber security. Digital security specialists who crunched the numbers in the context of the most frequent cyber-attacks found some interesting websites were targeted at an especially high frequency to end the year that we would all like to forget.
It is becoming abundantly clear that businesses lacking the proper cyber security protections should implement them as soon as possible. Let’s take a look at the websites that were hacked the most in the final month of the year.
#5: Friendsonly.me
Though the cyber-attacks levied against Friendsonly.me might have started as early as September, the data pertaining to those breaches was not reported until late December. Therefore, the figures included in the company’s cyber security statistics are grouped into the final month of the year. The numbers show friendsonly.me was subjected to significant data exposure to finish 2021. All in all, slightly more than 185,208 of the company’s emails and phone calls were recorded, stolen, or otherwise accessed inappropriately.
Surf the web on over to Friendsonly.me and you'll find it has a warning prominently displayed on the homepage stating: "Age restrictions: This site contains materials of an erotic nature. Come in only if you are already over 18."
Friendsonly is best described as a social network designed specifically for bloggers and acquaintances who create online content, share that content with "friends", and earn money through the generation of unique content sold for market value. In short, Friendsonly.me is an adult version of TikTok so its high frequency of digital attacks is somewhat understandable.
#4: Tambolabingo.com
Coming in at number four on the list of most frequently hacked websites in December of 2021 is Tambolabingo.com. This site was subjected to extensive attacks that resulted in considerable data exposure. All in all, nearly 287,000 pieces of data were improperly accessed from the website in December alone. The compromised data includes emails, phone calls, addresses, and full names. Similar to Friendsonly.me, the data referenced above might have been accessed by unauthorized parties as early as September of 2021, yet it was not reported until the year’s final month.
#3: Fun88.com
Fun88 is a gambling site based in Asia. The site offers sports, virtual, and virtual casino wagering opportunities. Though Fun88's homepage indicates the site is the continent's most trusted betting site and a “credible online gambling company”, it fell victim to a cyber-attack in December. The cyber-attack led to the exposure of more than 403,100 names, emails, usernames, and phone numbers.
#2: Forums.mypirata.me
The latest cyber security data indicates Forums.mypirata.me endured data exposure incidents numbering more than 503,650 in December alone. The unauthorized access of IP addresses, email addresses, usernames, and passwords will make it challenging for the company to retain users’ trust moving forward.
#1: Datpiff.com
Youngsters use the word “piff” to refer to something cool and attractive. Datpiff.com is one of the web’s top hip-hop mixtape sites. Unfortunately, the popular music site was breached by hackers more frequently than any other domain in December of 2021. A total of 7,693,656 usernames, passwords, and emails were exposed during the hack.
