The PGT Innovations data breach occurred when an attacker found its way into the file server and began accessing information. We have no way of knowing how the file systems access was achieved, but it happened fast and allowed the hacker into the private data maintained by the company. PGT quickly rectified the security issue and blocked the attacker out on the same day, but the damage was already done.
