Intel is a massive American tech company that produces processor chips and other technology products for sale around the world. This huge company generates more than 63 Billion in revenue annually and has products in most computers sold today. Many of those devices were just compromised because of an MSI data breach that exposed proprietary company data to the world.
Earlier this year, MSI suffered from a data breach by a ransomware gang known as Money Matters. The organization broke into MSI's file servers and stole more than 1.5 TB of company data. Much of this data included source code for the company's different devices and software programs, and among that code were private security keys for 116 different MSI devices that include Intel chips. These keys make it possible to create malware that will infect MSI devices with ease.
This data breach occurred in April 2023 and resulted in substantial data losses for MSI and Intel as well. The issue could lead to security issues for years to come and should be a real concern for anyone that owns an MSI product with an Intel chip inside.
This MSI and Intel data breach impacts customers that are using a modern MSI device with an Intel chip. If you have an MSI device, you should know that you're at an increased risk of being hacked and that your data is more at risk than if you were using a different product.
We have no way of knowing how many Intel documents and files were impacted by this breach. We only know that more than 100 different MSI devices with Intel chips are impacted by the breach. If you own any of these devices, you should take care to protect yourself. Be careful to avoid any suspicious email links and only download files from trustworthy locations.
