The Oath Keepers are a far-right group that claims to protect the US Constitution. They stormed the Capitol in 2020, an attack that resulted in nine deaths, including the four officers that killed themselves in the months after.
The leak was the membership list of the Oath Keepers. The list has over 38,000 names on it. These individuals come from every state, with 81 elected officials and hundreds of law enforcement and military officers listed.
We aren’t exactly sure who leaked the information at the time of writing. All we know is the list included hundreds of people in law enforcement, causing widespread panic and confusion. MSNBC posted an article on the subject, headlining, “Law enforcement names on Oath Keepers list should scare us all.”
This leak occurred on September 7th, 2022.
The leak can impact many more people than you’d think. If someone has a family member on the list, even if they disagree with the Oath Keepers, many people can target this innocent party and harm them. This also causes danger for children whose parents were on the list.
This kind of leak isn’t one to affect any files; from what we can tell, the Oath Keepers weren’t hacked. We don’t know who leaked the information, but it does appear to be an inside job.
