GiveSendGo is a mobile app and social media fundraising platform. It is a highly trusted Christian platform that allows people to raise money for whatever mission they believe God put in their path.
GiveSendGo, a Christian fundraising group, was breached earlier this winter. Digital criminals hijacked the Christian website, redirecting traffic to a webpage specifically created to frame the Canadian Freedom Convoy rebels as unpatriotic and uncivil. In fact, the hackers went as far as posting the personal information of more than 90,000 individuals who made financial contributions to the political group.
The breach resulted in data being transferred to the leak site referred to above. The leak site obtained a cache full of data, including information about political targets, yet how the attack occurred is still somewhat shrouded in mystery. The redirect page had a link that shifted online visitors to files with thousands of records of information about political donations.
This breach occurred in February 2022.
The breach impacts GiveSendGo as well as those brave enough to take a political stand and exercise their civil liberties. It is worth mentioning this breach is distinct from a prior GiveSendGo security setback that resulted in an S3 bucket hosted on Amazon being exposed, ultimately providing access to thousands of documents pertaining to donor identities.
The breach includes 30 megabytes of information. The names, email addresses, IP addresses, and ZIP codes of donors may now be in the hands of their political enemies. It is also possible that the stolen information will culminate in extensive identity theft and financial fraud.
