An unauthorized individual was able to gain access to PTI files while on the company's secure network. During this time, many delicate documents were accessed and potentially copied.
The PTI data breach occurred from July 7, 2022, until July 16, 2022.
Though PTI networks were accessed, it was the Pacific Gas and Electric company's information that was actually accessed, according to this PTI notice. PTI offers technical services to the utility company. PG&E site visitors, contractors, customers, and employees may all have suffered the loss of data due to this breach.
It is unknown exactly how many files were accessed during the time of the data breach. All the files were related to PG&E customers specifically, and customers of other PTI-related companies weren't impacted by the breach. Customers impacted by the breach have a risk of suffering from identity theft and have access to identity theft protection services covered by the company starting at the time of receiving the breach notification.
