United Veterinary Care is a national veterinary chain with 115 locations across 23 states. UVC employs 600 vets and 3,700 other employees, including customer service representatives and veterinary technicians.
The breach was an unauthorized party accessing sensitive customer data. Between January 25, 2022, and March 11, 2022, someone accessed internal systems containing social security numbers, customers' names, and financial account information.
The breach occurred when an employee’s email was compromised. This was most likely the result of a phishing attack, as most data breaches are.
This breach occurred between January 25, 2022, and March 11, 2022.
The breach impacts an unknown number of UVC customers. As a result, anyone who has used the clinic at any of its locations should keep an eye on their mailbox to ensure they don’t get a letter from the clinic.
We don’t know how many files or individuals were accessed in the breach. However, we do know that UVC sent notification letters to affected customers. If you have received one of these letters, it will also include instructions on activating a complimentary two-year Equifax membership. For those unfamiliar with the service, Equifax is the second-largest credit bureau in the world and offers credit monitoring services. These services will not in any way affect your credit score.
